Autumn in Denmark 

 

Series of 5 manipulated photos, 2008

 

Autumn in Denmark relates to a certain period in danish politics - active warfare in Iraq and Afghanistan, danish participation in the so-called 'Coalition of the Willing' (the nation states that the entered the wars on terror under american leadership). The title of each photo relates to specific aspects of this dark period of danish history.

 

The photos are created by using various Photoshop-effects on found footage. 

 

 

 

1.9.2003 Ulla Dahlerup

Ulla Dahlerup was a politician from the right-wing party, Danish Peoples Party. In a newspaper-essay on 1.9.2003 she described the 'darkness in the middle of the day' and the repressive intolerance she felt that her party was treated with by the established political discourses.

The White House turned black. The Coalition of the Willing was the name George W Bush gave the small conglomerate of states joining the USA in the war against terror in Iraq.

Per Stig Møller i Basra

The title refers to the danish minister of foreign affairs, Per Stig Møller. The text describes an act of torture done by british military forces in Basra, where Denmark handed over their war-prisoners to the british army.

The title, 'darkness in the middle of the day' is a quote from an essay by Ulla Dahlerup, a politician from the right-wing party, Danish Peoples Party.
